Syllabus: MSCI 615 Business Process Engineering

Course Description

Focuses on the strategic and organizational issues of process management and the use of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERPs). Topics include major strategic approaches used to understand, analyze and implement efficient business processes, workflow modeling techniques, process modeling techniques and procedure models. Employs SAP R/3 Enterprise Application Software to show how using ERP to reengineer processes is common in a typical business organization. Called process integration, this SAP’s ERP reengineering tool is discussed in accompanying readings and while performing “hands on” exercises in the last quarter of the course. During the first three quarters of the course, you will use SAP’s ERP “hands on” exercises and accompanying readings to learn how to identify, document, model, assess, and improve core business processes. Such core processes include procurement, fulfillment, inventory and warehouse management, production, and material planning processes. (3 credits)

Why Complete CC&IS’ ERP Certificate Program?

CC&IS’ ERP Certificate program is intended to give our students a broad background in theory and “hands on” experience with SAP’s ERP system. Some students complete CC&IS’ ERP Certificate to help insure a more successful TERP10 training session and final exam. Other students are users of SAP’s ERP system on-the-job with their employers. They complete CC&IS’ ERP Certificate to become more knowledgeable of how the system can be used throughout a company, or at least more knowledgeable than how the student uses the system in their job.

SAP’s Certificate Available

Since Regis University’s College of Computer & Information Sciences is a member of SAP’s University Alliances program, students will earn the SAP Recognition Award Certificate (provided by SAP) upon completing a minimum of three courses containing live SAP lab work. All four courses in the ERP Certificate program meet the SAP’s criteria of containing live SAP lab work.

SAP’s Training Programs Available

SAP as a company has a number of training programs for people to study SAP’s ERP system – at various levels of sophistication and detail. One entry-level SAP training and exam program is called TERP10, which can be studied at an SAP training center, or taken on-line. At the end of two weeks of training, a student takes the TERP10 exam to show they have mastered the content of the course. (Training at a SAP training center is expensive - $7,000 to $8,000, for example. But, some colleges/universities, for about $2,000 to $4,000, offer TERP-10 training for students who complete CC&IS’ ERP certificate.)
